Andrea Lawson at Undertown
The month of July, The Undertown Coffee and Wine, is pleased to present the paintings of Andrea Lawson.
Andrea Lawson, a resident of Port Hadlock, was born in Hollywood, California and received a BFA from the University of California, her MFA from Parsons School of Design, and is a member of Corvidae Press. Lawson’'s work has been exhibited throughout the United States as well as Europe. She is also an active member of The Society of Children’s' Book Writers and Illustrators, and is currently working on a book about dancing for children. Lawson’s paintings are a feast for the eyes, combining brilliant colors and broad strokes to create abstract scenes inspired by nature and dance, as in her newest series, “"Rite of Spring.”" Also, Lawson will present landscape and floral images that combine her abstract-art training in a real and technically skilled way. In addition, she will show “"Seams and Dreams,”" an encaustic series which explores the metaphors of our lives as they are pieced together.
Statement from Artist
I love to move voluptuous paint in vibrant gestures across the canvas to create layers of texture in a jungle of ripe color. The impulse of human gesture gives rise to my kinetic painting process, invented from dance and the lines and forms of the human body. My paintings resonate with emotion and a sense of mystery as hidden images are revealed in a dance of color and rhythm.
Andrea's Paintings are a kind of bouquet amidst a turbulent garden-in a rite of spring-..."
